Startup Boom Technologies has implemented new supersonic jet flights. The company recently has presented its fully functional prototype of the new XB-1 aircraft, as reported by news agency Tourism.
The fuselage is almost 22 meters long. Interestingly, external surface of the aircraft can be heated to a temperature 120-130°C at supersonic speed, although the XB-1 plating materials are designed for temperatures exceeding 150°C. Flight tests will begin in 2021. The new vehicle will be able to cover the distance between Paris and Montreal less than four hours, Los Angeles - Sydney flight will take 8 hours and 30 minutes. For example, a non-stop flight between Los Angeles and Sydney on Boeing 777 or Airbus A350 aircrafts takes at least 15 hours.
Unlike the ordinary modern aircrafts, flying at altitudes of 9,000-11,000 meters above the ground at a speed of 850-900 km / h, supersonic aircrafts reach high altitudes. An "usual" flight altitude for these aircrafts is about 18,000 meters and the speed exceeds the speed of sound, that is, 1,224 km / h. Thin air at such extreme altitudes prevents the additional air resistance and overheating of external elements, as well as reducing a fuel consumption.
