British Airways was fined £ 20 million ($ 25.8 million) due to the leakage of personal and financial data of more than 400 thousand customers in 2018, as reported by Interfax.

According to UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) statement, an investigation concerning the cyberattack, has revealed "the airline was processing large amounts of personal data without security measures." The fine was the majorest in ICO history, wherein the fine amount should have been £ 183 million, but the regulator lowered it, following the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on British Airways.

"The company's failure to take the necessary measures was unacceptable, and this had an impact on hundreds of thousands persons. When organizations make ill-considered decisions on personal data, it would have really affected on human lives," said Elizabeth Denham, ICO director.
