China has launched the largest airport expansion program

According to the ATO, Baiyun International Airport (IATA code: CAN) has implemented the largest and most ambitious airport project in Chinese history in Guangzhou, China.
The three-stage airport expansion plan includes the construction of a new terminal T3 with a total area of 422,000 sq. m, two outbuildings to T2 with an area of 144 thousand sq. m, a new cargo facility and two new runways.
In 2019, Baiyun Airport served 73.4 million passengers, close to achieving the capacity of 80 million passengers. In terms of passenger traffic, the airport took the third place in the list of the country's largest air harbors after Beijing Capital Airport and Shanghai Pudong. As a result of upgrading, Baiyun Airport capacity will be increased to 120 million passengers and 775 thousand takeoff and landing operations per year by 2030; an increase up to 140 million passengers and 870 thousand takeoff and landing operations by 2040.
