IATA proposes to implement COVID tests before foreign flights instead of quarantine

IATA has called for the introduction of COVID-19 testing for all passengers flying overseas. This solution is proposed as an alternative to quarantine restrictions that passengers must pass upon arrival in another country. IATA believes, these measures contribute to a faster recovery of international air transportation, Interfax writes.

“The key to restoring a free movement across borders is to systematically test all travelers for COVID-19 before leaving. This will give confidence to governments thereby opening their borders without risk that involve continually changing travel regulations. Passenger testing would return people the freedom to travel and workplaces for millions of people, "said Alexander de Junyac, IATA Director General, quoted by the press service.

More than six months have passed since countries suspended flights overseas to combat COVID-19. Since then, several states have opened the borders, but the effect was limited, the IATA said. Arrival quarantine measures make trips impractical, and frequent changes in COVID-19 measures in some countries prevent travel planning. In order to quickly introduce rapid tests, IATA intends to cooperate with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and health authorities. Due to "covid" restrictions, the global aviation industry will lose about $ 400 billion in revenue this year, the total loss is expected to be more than $ 80 billion, the organization stated.
