Airbus has presented three hydrogen-powered aircrafts which will be operated by 2035. Concepts include a regional turboprop aircraft, an A320neo-class narrow-body aircraft and an integrated fuselage (BWB) aircraft, according to ATO portal.
All concepts are based on using the hydrogen as the main source of energy. European manufacturer considers the hydrogen as serious potential for using in aerospace and in other industries. Airbus, like all aircraft manufacturers and the civil aviation industry in general, is under tremendous political and social pressure requiring a reduction of the environmental impact by aviation . According to the schedule, Airbus is giving itself five years (until 2025) to "re-make" technologies and more accurately determine the most likely of three directions on which it would create an aircraft of 2035.
“I am confident that using hydrogen both in synthetic fuel and as a primary source of energy in commercial aviation, it would have a great potential to further improve the environmental performance of aircrafts,” said Guillaume Faury, President of Airbus. European manufacturer could have a benefit from solid public funding appropriated to hydrogen research in both France and Germany - funding from public budgets are intended to minimize forced layoffs in Airbus and other aerospace companies, and make the aviation more environmentally. In particular, French government expects to operate hydrogen-fueled aircrafts by 2035.
