Hi Fly, the Portuguese charter airline, has demonstrated the world's first "cargo" Airbus A380. During the conversion, a significant part of the aircraft's passenger compartment was dismantled and adapted for light cargo transportation . Given the luggage compartment, cargo can be placed on three levels, according to ATO portal.
Previously, the aircraft was operated by Singapore Airlines, and now is owned by Lisbon's Hi Fly, typically operating charter flights worldwide on a wet lease condititions. However, the demand for such charters has been reduced due to the current restrictions related to the pandemic - but for the same reason, the demand for light cargo transportation, including medical supplies, has sharply increased. Hi Fly has quickly responded to changing needs by creating a cargo-passenger version.
Cargo deck configuration in the lower part of the fuselage was left unchanged. It can accommodate up to 133.3 cubic meters of cargo: 77.0 in the front, 42.0 in the back and 14.3 in the middle.
