Saudi Arabia intends to build an unusual airport, the design of which is inspired by a desert mirage. The air harbor will appear in Amaala, the tourist area on the northwest coast of the country near the Red Sea and would be one of the major region's attractions, according to Traveller, the travel publication.
The terminal project and control tower were developed by the British architectural bureau Foster + Partners. For Amaala airport, architects have invented an unusual shape, and due to the mirror panels, covering the entire building, an illusion of a futuristic mirage rising from the desert will be created. The air harbor will be noticed from all angles - both from the earth and from the air and would attract interested views.
“The airport will be the most unique project from design to internal equipment,” said Nicholas Naples, Amaala CEO. Inside the terminal, it is expected to create a modern interior with unique works of art. Besides, the terminal territory will be equipped with climate control hangars for private aircrafts and a ground transfer for all VIP passengers. According to preliminary information, the airport should be built by 2023. The air harbor would annually serve about 1 million people.
