On November 5–6, 2025, Almaty became the center of discussions on the future of the aviation profession. The ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Workshop on Aviation Training and Workforce Planning, organized by “Kazaeronavigatsia” RSE jointly with the ICAO European and North Atlantic Regional Office, with the support of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ended here.

The event brought together over a hundred representatives of aviation administrations, airlines, academies, and international organizations from Europe, Asia, and the CIS. Over the course of two days, experts discussed how to train specialists who will be in demand not only today, but also in the aviation of the future.

“The main challenge facing aviation is not technology, but people. The safety, sustainability, and innovation of the industry depend on how we train and develop specialists,” - emphasized in his speech Mr. Nicolas Rallo, the ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Director.

The discussion focused on four key topics identified by ICAO:

skills monitoring and forecasting of personnel needs;

culture of continuous training in conditions of technological change;

engaging young people through the NGAP (Next Generation of Aviation Professionals) program;

partnerships between training centers, airlines, and regulators.

The program included interactive panels, “Sky Talk” discussions and practical sessions with the participation of top management from organizations such as JAA TO, ACI World, Airbus Helicopters Kazakhstan Engineering, Air Astana, QAZAQ AIR, ENAC, EUROCONTROL and others.

Participants paid special attention to the role of young specialist. In the “Future Voices of Aviation” section, students and aspiring professionals shared their ideas on what the aviation industry should look like in the coming decades.

“We see that young people don't just want to work in aviation—they want to change it for the better. Our goal is to create opportunities and space for them to grow,” noted Mrs. Paula V. de Almeida, the CEO of JAA TO.

The selection of Almaty as the workshop venue recognizes Kazakhstan's growing role in the development of aviation education and international cooperation.
Today, the country is actively integrating into ICAO’s global initiatives, developing its aviation training infrastructure, and sharing its experience with partners in the region.
The workshop confirmed Kazakhstan's status as a regional competence center and a strategic partner in the formation of the aviation of the future.
