Emirates, one of the majorest airlines in the world, has begun reducing on board services. On weekends, the carrier canceled free Wi-Fi and live broadcasts during a flight - these options are no longer available for passengers, according to Simple Flying.
Reportedly, all airline customers need to additionally pay for the use of wireless Internet. The price will depend on the route and duration of the flight. Previously, unlimited Wi-Fi was available to first and business class travelers, as well as economy class passengers having Gold and Platinum status in the Skywards loyalty program. Live broadcasts on board as part of the ICE entertainment system have also disappeared. It should be noted, Emirates still has a wide selection of different movies and television shows for all tastes.
Emirates Airlines was one of the first who began reducing transportation costs under pandemic COVID-19 using restrictions on entertainment services. Apparently, in the near future other carriers may follow the lead of Arab company. It is worth noting that Emirates took serious measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection and focused great attention to safety of passengers. The airline was the first in the world which started operating pre-flight tests, and also banned the carriage of hand luggage in order to reduce the risk of infection on board.
