The International Air Transport Association (IATA) supports the obligatory wearing of masks on board as a temporary measure of protection against coronavirus after resuming the air traffic. At the same time, the IATA is against measures of social distance, involving empty seats between passengers, according to Interfax-Kazakhstan.
“Evidence shows that the risk of transmission on board is low. Wearing masks would reduce a low risk, without causing dramatic increase in the airfare costs, that brings measures of social distance, ”the IATA report said.
An unofficial survey, conducted by the Association among 18 largest airlines, has revealed only three episodes of COVID-19 in flight during January-March 2020, from passengers to crew. Another four episodes constituted a transmission of the virus from pilot to pilot, which could have occurred in flight or before / after it, including stopovers. There were no cases of proposed transmission from passenger to passenger, according to the report.
