Airlines refused a refund for cancelled flights worldwide

More than 70 air carriers have terminated ticket refunds. Such data are provided by the International computer reservation system GDS, according to Vestnik ATOR. According to GDS data, 71 airlines were included in the list, suspending refunds for cancelled flights. A complete list of airlines whose passengers cannot receive a refund is available on the GDS website.

Reportedly, carriers are forcing their customers to accept travel vouchers instead of cash. The validity of such vouchers is, in most cases, up to one year. Some airlines have increased the deadline to 760 days. It is possible that refunds would be resumed in mid-April. In this case, compensation will be paid from 15 days to 3 months. The decision is made by the carriers.

The ATOR explained what passengers and travel agents should have to do, having airline tickets from the list. If the flight is into the “forced refund” category, for example, it did not take place due to the closure of the borders, cancellation of the air service, changes in the visa regime or the carrier itself canceled it, it is necessary to cancel a flight segment at least 40 minutes before the departure time. Then the ticket  goes to the registry of forced returns for subsequent compensation in any form. Including, in vouchers and deposits. In other cases, the return will fall into the “voluntary” category and will be implemented with a fine according to the tariff.
