European air carriers predict the crisis end by early summer

Aviation experts are awaiting 25% flight reduction in the coming weeks. However, they have expressed confidence that by summer the traffic quantity will be restored, according to fvw ,German industry publication. European airline leadership held a meeting where they discussed  an impact the outbreak coronavirus on the industry. All passenger transportations will be significantly affected by the spread infection.

Benjamin Smith, Member of the Management Board Air France KLM, also leading the Airlines for Europe Association (A4E), said it’s not yet possible to fully evaluate the impact of the virus. Karsten Spor, the head of the Lufthansa air holding, has noted with sorrow, the situation is showing a constant negative dynamics, that is, the position of companies would only get worse in the very near future. Thus, Michael O'Leary, the head of Ryanair, said that demand in the next two or three weeks would be very weak, but by the summer the situation might be changed significantly and passenger traffic will return to their previous operating.

During the meeting, air carriers called on European authorities to reform the passenger rights due the new reality amid an coronavirus outbreak. “Exceptional circumstances” showed: European passenger rights policy must change rapidly. In conditions of instability, carriers must be given some exemptions that would protect them from huge losses due to flight interruptions. More and more losses often arise due to preventive measures to combat the coronavirus spread.
