At the end of 2020, Air New Zealand is planning to open a new service- class, which will be called Economy Skynest. Full-fledged sleeping places are designed for passengers, according to the carrier's press service. As it has became known, due to specially equipped capsules for sleeping, air travelers would not only have an opportunity to stretch their legs, but also to get some rest.
Six such places will be implemented on each board. According to Air New Zealand press release, each capsule has 200 cm x 58 cm in size. The sleeping place will be equipped with a pillow, sheet and blanket. For more comfort and privacy, a curtain from dense fabric is provided. Besides, separate reading lights, air vents and USB outputs will be appeared. According to airline's representatives, an obvious challenge for travelers in economy class on long-haul flights is the lack of comfort, an ability to stretch their legs and lie down.
“We have done a great job creating sleeping capsules. Today we can confidently say that there is an opportunity to introduce such sleeping places into all our airliners,”said Mike Tod, Marketing and Customer Service Director of Air New Zealand. Currently, the airline issues a patent and is registering a trademark for its unique development. Expectedly, the service would be appeared on flights Auckland - New York. In the future, flat beds may appear on other routes.
