Turkey’s directorate general of civil aviation has confirmed that struggling carrier AtlasGlobal has suspended flights and is to file for bankruptcy.
Reports in the Turkish media emerged on 12 February that AtlasGlobal was to pull the plug on operations, less than two months after resuming operations having first temporarily suspended flights last November.
There has subsequently been no formal notice or comment from AtlasGlobal over the reports, which cited a meeting held on 12 February at which staff were told the airline was stopping flights. Now you can’t buy a ticket on the carrier’s website, all flights have been canceled, and the last flight took place yesterday, February 12, in the direction of Baghdad - Istanbul.
Today, in a post from its official Twitter account, Turkey’s directorate general of civil aviation says: “Atlasjet Airlines filed for bankruptcy because their operations could not continue and their flights were stopped.” AtlasGlobal was known as Atlasjet from its launch in 2001, before later rebranding.
