Russian air harbors are moving towards digital flight monitoring systems. At airports, multi-position surveillance systems "Almanach" are being introduced, according to Digital Radio Engineering Systems.
Reportedly, eight aero-terminals in St.Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Mineralnye Vody, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Tyumen, and Samara have already been equipped with new developments. This year, "Almanach" is supposed to be received in Saratov, Chelyabinsk, Krasnodar, Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. Due to new technology, it is possible to make a monitoring the aerodrome territory within a radius of 9.6 km. Operators are able to oversee not only arriving and departing aircrafts, but also all the ground transportation, operating at the airport.
Such data helps controllers to oversee a situation completely. Especially, the digital novelty is important for harbor operations and aircraft maintenance in bad weather conditions and low visibility. Aircrafts might land in a vertical visibility of 30 meters and a visibility range of 300 meters. Such measures meet the ICAO requirements for the second category of precision approach capability.
