Nursultan Nazarbayev airport code will be changed in April 2020

Raimonds Gruntis, the regional Head of the IATA, confirmed that Nursultan Nazarbayev airport code will be changed in April 2020. Relevant procedures are currently conducted. This was announced during a meeting of the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee with a representative of the International organization at the 2nd round table of Airlines Heads of Central Asian countries (CA), according to Kapital.kz.
Previously estimated, the approval of Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport new code will be held in January 2020. The MIID of the Republic of Kazakhstan explained that the procedures for the entry into force of amendments to IATA Resolution 763 are currently undergoing, which require a certain time. The code modification initiative was supported at the IATA Passenger Standards Meeting, including all members of the organization, on October 14, 2019 in Warsaw. “Several options for a new code are being discussed with IATA,” the ministry explained.
It should be noted, event participants, including Air Astana, QAZAQ Air and SCAT (Kazakhstan), AviaTraffic (Kyrgyzstan), Somon Air (Tajikistan) and AZAL (Azerbaijan), as well as IATA representatives, discussed further development in aviation industry, European Union's strategy and legal framework issues on air traffic, airport taxes and API-PNR passenger data systems.
