Airbus performed its first fully automatic takeoff

According to Airbus, the first fully automatic takeoff of the A350-1000 airliner was completed at the Toulouse-Blagnac airport. On board were two pilots and three engineers. Totally, during the experimentation, 8 automatic takeoffs were completed in 4.5 hours.

According to the company, this automatic take-off was performed using the on-board image recognition system instead of using the ILS system, which is now used by all passenger aircrafts worldwide.

Airbus has stated, that the ATTOL project (autonomous steering, take-off and landing) was launched in 2018, and automated take-off is its most important stage. This summer, it is planned to test automatic landing and steering.
