Hong Kong Airlines, the third largest airline in Hong Kong, may lose its passenger license by the end of the week if it cannot urgently improve its financial situation. Such a decision may be made by the Hong Kong aviation regulator Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA).
According to the Bloomberg news agency, the Transport and Housing Board (THB) of Hong Kong also expressed “serious discontent and deep concern” because of the airline’s worst financial condition. The third regulator, the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Authority, agrees with this position.
Currently, Hong Kong Airlines, owned by the Chinese holding company HNA Group, has already announced the flight termination to Vancouver, Ho Chi Minh and Tianjin. It is noted, the airline's financial problems were aggravated by mass protests in Hong Kong, which sharply reduced the number of passengers, heading to the city. In addition to Hong Kong Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways has a similar difficult financial situation, which plans to solve an issue by reducing its shipping capacity.
