Aeroflot has proposed to create a bird-fighting company at airports

Aeroflot has taken the initiative to create a company that would provide ornithological protection at airports, according to TASS. They suggest launching such an organization supported by the Ministry of Transport or the Rossaviation.

In order to increase an ornithological protection, the air carrier has proposed to create a special company and, depending on seasonality, to send its employees to work in the most problematic air harbors. It is also recommended to use hunting animals - birds and dogs on the airport territory. This approach has long been used in foreign air harbors and has proven itself only on the plus side.

“For example, the Sheremetyevo Airport (the largest in Russia, the basic for Aeroflot) does not use the scaring method using trained animals,” underlined in the report. Today, Russian air harbors are used the most commonly “standard” measure of ornithological protection - grass cutting. However, some types of birds (for example, gulls), on the contrary, are afraid of high grass. In this regard, it is necessary to review an existing documentation on ornithological safety and align it with international standards.
