TAP Portugal will start selling business class seats through an auction

TAP Portugal, Portuguese airline, introduces a new service. According to Simple Flying, through the auction, the carrier will sell unsold seats in business class 24 hours before the departure of each flight.

The ticket auction will be held through the SeatBoost app. The auction will be open one day prior the departure and will close 60 minutes before the departure. The winning participant will get a new boarding pass, with which he will be able to go directly to the inspection area. Therefore, TAP Portugal passengers will have the opportunity to promote their seats to business class, depending on the availability and demand for them.

Currently, TAP Portugal will be the first international carrier, using the SeatBoost app. It should be noted, the unlimited bidding process for the business class seats may bring great losses for the airline. Thus, TAP Portugal has included a number of restrictions at the auction process to avoid financial problems. For example, an airline will be able to independently establish a starting rate for auctioned seats. Besides, TAP Portugal does not cancel the standard upgrade service for an additional fee or accrued miles as part of the bonus program.
