From November 6, 2019, the largest German airline Lufthansa will launch a new Economy Light Tariff for European routes. On transatlantic flights, this fare has already been offered in test mode since last year, according to Simple Flying.
Apparently, Economy Light allows travelers to carry only hand luggage weighing up to 8 kg. Also, there is no possibility to rebook the tickets and refunds. Snacks and drinks are included in the price, however, it will be possible to improve the seats, add the checked baggage allowance or choose a seat in advance only for an additional price.
The new tariff will be available not only to Lufthansa passengers, but customers of other network airlines, such as SWISS and Austrian Airlines, will be able to use it. Mobile travelers, accustomed to taking only one backpack on a trip, will have the opportunity to significantly save on flights. The savings would be around 30-50 euros per one-way ticket. Therefore, Lufthansa is trying to enter the low-cost airline market and be competitive alongside European low-cost airlines.
