Asia's Largest low-cost carrier intends to open direct flights to Kazakhstan

The Asian largest low-cost carrier, Air Asia, intends to open direct flights to Kazakhstan, according to the Civil Aviation Committee of the MIID RK. On behalf of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan is actively working on opening new international routes and attracting new foreign airlines.
In Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), a Kazakhstan delegation, consisting of representatives of the Civil Aviation Committee of the MIID RK, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Malaysia, airports of the Nur Sultan, Almaty and Karaganda cities, has negotiated with Mr. Datuk Kamarudin bin Meranun, the co-owner and founder of the Air Asia group of companies, and Mr. Benjamin Ismail, Executive Director of Air Asia.
Air Asia is the largest low-cost airline in Asia and the 13th in the world. During the negotiations, the parties have discussed the possibility of Air Asia in opening direct flights between Kazakhstan and Malaysia. In order to develop the Astana International Financial Center and the country's tourism potential, the Malaysian party was offered an opportunity to fly through Kazakhstan to the world's largest financial centers with a 5th degree of air freedom at the airports of Nur Sultan, Almaty, Karaganda and others.
The "open skies" mode applies to the airports of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Karaganda, Shymkent, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Kokshetau, Taraz, Petropavlovsk, Semey. In addition, representatives of domestic airports have proposed various modalities to encourage the opening of regular flights. Conversely, Mr. Datuk Kamarudin bin Meranun expressed an interest in opening direct flights to Almaty with a 5th degree of air freedom to European cities - Rome, Milan, Nice and New York (USA).
A meeting was also held with the Secretary of State - the Head of the Civil Aviation Department of the Ministry of Transport of Malaysia, Mr. Mohamad Radzuan Mazlan. During the negotiations, they discussed the expansion air traffic issues by Malaysian airlines, including Air Asia. The Malaysian aviation authorities has expressed a complete support for Kazakhstan’s initiative on the opening of new flights between the two countries.
