One million transit passengers will be transported through Kazakhstan at the end of this year, said Beibut Atamkulov, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development. “The total transit of containers has tripled - from 271 thousand to 825 thousand containers. Transit income has increased by 4.3 times - from 180 billion tenge to 782 billion tenge. The resources of cargo transportations has increased by 1.5 times - from 1.3 million to 1.8 million tons. The number of transit air passengers has grown fourfold and we plan to bring it up to one million transit passengers by the end of the year”, he said at a government meeting on October 22, presenting the intermediate results of the Nurly Zhol state infrastructure development program for 2015-2019 and the project for 2020 -2025 years.
According to him, the transport share in the country's GDP has grown from 7.9% to 8.2%.
In addition, he noted, that more than two million transit passengers will be transported through Kazakhstan in 2025. “In civil aviation, the number of transit air passengers will be increased more than 2 times and in 2025 more than two million transit passengers will visit Kazakhstan. The total number of passengers carried by Kazakhstan airlines will be 11 million". For this purpose, domestic carriers plan to upgrade their aircraft fleet by 64 units (AirAstana / Fly Arystan) - 36 aircrafts, SCAT - 5 aircrafts, Qazaq Air - 3 aircrafts and 20 aircrafts for local airlines.
In order to ensure the attractiveness of air transit, the ground infrastructure modernization of domestic airports will be continued - the number of airports categorized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will be increased to 19. To stimulate domestic tourism, measures would be taken to develop small aviation. Currently, there are three aerodromes of local airlines (Usharal, Urdzhar, Zaysan). Bayanaul aerodrome is at the commissioning stage. In the coming five years, it is planned to construct another 13 aerodromes of local airlines.
This year, for flights to these aerodromes were purchased under lease two L-410 aircrafts (19 seats) and by 2025, it is planned to launch up to 20 aircrafts of a similar class. The Ministry is being made to increase the number of international flights. Today, Kazakhstan has flights with 26 foreign states on 99 international routes (there are 430 flights a week by 26 foreign and three Kazakhstan airlines). Since 2017, the “open skies” stage has been introduced in Nur-Sultan. Over three years, Kazakhstan and foreign air carriers have opened 19 new routes, including Tokyo, Warsaw, Budapest, Helsinki and others. The flight frequency of operating routes has been expanded to London, Moscow, Beijing, Istanbul. Kazakhstan carriers are planning to open flights to such major cities as Shanghai (2020), Singapore (2020), New York (2021).
