American designers have announced a revolution in air travel. Nowadays, the middle seats in aircrafts will be wider and will have their own armrests, according to The Sun.
The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA) has approved a new seat arrangement system in the aircraft, which sought to solve a problem of passengers, sitting on central places. After five years of development, American designers, have suggested to place seats in a checkerboard pattern, and also to move a middle-seat for several centimeters back. This configuration is called S1.
Besides, the new design implies, the central chair will be 7.5 centimeters wider and slightly lower than its neighboring. Changes also affected the armrests, which received a special zigzag shape and an additional notch in its rear part. Such design solutions allow the central passenger, who is sitting a little behind, to freely place his elbows on the armrest simultaneously with his neighbors on the left and right sides.
By the end of 2020,as became known, one American airline has already ordered new seats and intends to install them on its 50 aircrafts. The name of the carrier is kept secret. So far, S1 is intended for short-and medium-haul flights. In the near future, designers will introduce the S2 system, which is intended for long-haul flights. These seats will be provided with a large indent, tilt function and entertainment screen.
