According to the news portal Ato.ru, the German airline Lufthansa’s leadership has recently confirmed that it plans to proceed to flexible prices as part of their loyalty program Miles & More. The “Price” of an award tickets is traditionally set by geographic areas. For example, now Lufthansa's flight from Moscow to London, in an economy class, Madrid or Rome and back is estimated at 35,000 bonus miles. With a dynamic pricing, the price of an award ticket is defined by the current supply and demand in the direction, similar to tickets, purchased for money.
American Delta Air Lines , the first carrier, switched to such a system; from November 15, 2019, American United Airlines has announced the introduction of flexible pricing; British Airways hinted that they are working on a similar project.
In general, airlines have been experimenting with a price of “mile” tickets for a long time, for example, during the hot season - doubling the prices or, conversely, offering less popular or new directions with a discount of 50% from the standard ticket mile price. However, fully dynamic pricing is a new step, allowing an airline to govern the “mile” price, depending on the current price.
