According to The Sun, European low-cost airlines charge more for luggage passengers than for the flight itself.
Experts of the British edition figured out that additional baggage fees on selected European budget airlines exceed a flight’s price. In particular, a similar practice has been found on separated Ryanair, EasyJet, Flybe and Level Airlines flights. The ticket price for these low-cost airlines is very alluring, if you would fly only with a hand luggage. If you need to take an extra suitcase or bag, the ticket price may jump several times.
Ryanair said their baggage policy is transparent and profitable to customers. EasyJet commented: “Carrier’s customers always pay only for what they want. In addition, this state of affairs suits consumers, because now the company has 90 million customers a year. The fact that a baggage transportation can be more expensive than a journey of the customer actually reflects an affordable tariffs,” added representatives of the British low-cost airline.
The British edition clarifies, from 2014 to 2018, an increase in revenue from additional baggage fees by 110% has been observed in the world's 20 largest airlines. Last year, carriers earned about 25 billion euros for this service.
