International Council: "Prospects for the development of aviation meteorology"

From 25 to 27 November 2024, the next joint meeting of the working groups PT/EAST/22 METG EASPG ICAO and WG-4 ICH CIS WMO (working group “Meteorological support for civil aviation” of the International Council for Hydrometeorology (WG-4 ICG CIS) is taking place in Astana and Project Group for the Implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices in Eastern Europe, including Central Asia (PT/EAST METG ICAO).

The event is organized by the "Kazaeronavigatsia" RSE. “Kazakhstan is welcoming the guests of this meeting for the third time. Prior to this, the meeting was held on the territory of Kazakhstan in 2011 and 2018. This event is the first offline meeting since 2019,” noted Faat Bogdashkin, First Deputy Director General of the “Kazaeronavigatsia RSE”.

The Regional officer of the ICAO European Bureau, Nino Gelovani, provided information about the decisions of the METG34 meeting (held in September 2024 at the ICAO office in Paris). More than 50 specialists in the field of aviation meteorology, researchers and representatives of air navigation from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan take part in the meeting.

More than 30 reports and communications will be presented at the meeting within the framework of the prospects for the development of aviation meteorology in the region. Representative of Austria control, Deputy Chairman of DMG (Date Management Group) Michael Pichler shared with the meeting participants the results of monitoring on management, information processing and proposed a solution for working with OPMET data for the implementation of SWIM.

A new chairman of the PT/EAST 22 METG EASPG ICAO working group was also selected Maxat Tundebayev (Kazakhstan).
