Spanish airports began to use gender-neutral communication

Created on 30.04.2019 08:45

The Spanish Department of air transport and airports began to change the wording in the ads that sound on speakerphone in air harbors across the country, according to "Euro Pulse".

Now it is possible to hear only the neutral treatment to the passengers without the use of forms of feminine and masculine. It is planned that such appeals will be introduced at all airports in Spain by the end of the year.

Similar changes have already been introduced in other European countries. For example, in 2017, Amsterdam issued a memo for civil servants and public figures with norms of gender-neutral vocabulary: instead of the address "Ladies and gentlemen", the drafters suggest using "Dear Amsterdam citizens".
