Open Day in Shymkent branch

Who, as a child, did not dream of visiting an airport, being on the platform surrounded by airliners and being inside one of them?

On November 1, an Open Day was held at the Shymkent branch for the children of branch employees. The event included the employee’s actual journey from the checkpoint to the workplace.

At 11 a.m, the children and their parents gathered at the entrance to the airport, where branch employees gave instructions on the rules of behavior on the airport premises.

Then everything happened as on a normal working day for their parents: children went through the checkpoint and found themselves where they control the flights. The accompanying people divided the guests into groups; the children excitedly entered the room of the engineer of the CNS/ATM service, the room of the duty engineer of the MSC, the room of the ACC and the control tower. Only the instructions received to maintain silence did not allow me to express enthusiastic emotions.

In the control simulator there were no restrictions on emotions; children could ask questions, put on a headset, and give the command “cleared for takeoff.” An experienced instructor launched a complex exercise that allowed to see marks on the air situation indicators and taking off aircraft on the visualization screen.

Most of the children learned for the first time how an air traffic service center actually works, what important professions people work to ensure safety in the sky, and saw with their own eyes what a serious and responsible work their parents are involved in.

Of course, what would we do without a real aircraft? The children got a chance to touch the wing and landing gear of a working aircraft and climb aboard. The genuine emotions of our children from the opportunity to sit at the controls in the cockpit, feel like a pilot and voice the word “take off” are worth a lot. Afterwards, the children received on-board meals and went home with sparkling eyes.

What they saw on this day will probably remain in the hearts of many and they will return as aviation specialists.
