The next joint meeting of Working Group 4 “Meteorological Support of Civil Aviation” of the International Council for Hydrometeorology (CIS ICH WG-4) and the Project Team on the Implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices in Eastern Europe, including Central Asia was held in Astana.

The next joint meeting of Working Group 4 “Meteorological Support of Civil Aviation” of the International Council for Hydrometeorology (CIS ICH WG-4) and the Project Team on the Implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices in Eastern Europe, including Central Asia (PT / EAST METG ICAO) was held from June 5 to June 7, 2018 in the city of Astana. Significantly, 7 years ago the first joint meeting was held in Kazakhstan in 2011.

The representatives of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine - members of WG-4 and PT / EAST, as well as representatives of ICAO, “IRAM” CJSC and SKYMAX INNOVATIONS LLP took part in the joint meeting. The total number of participants in the joint meeting was about 40 people.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Azat Bekturov, Director General of “Kazaeronavigatsia” RSE of Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Investments and Development.

The welcoming remarks were made by: Mr. Oleg Avdeyev, Head of the Air Navigation Department of Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Investments and Development, Mrs. Marina Petrova, the Chairman of the CIS ICH WG-4,                      Mr. Nino Gelovani, the Chairman of the METG PT / EAST, Mr. Christopher Keohan, the Regional Representative of the Implementation of Air Navigation Systems (MET) of the ICAO European and North Atlantic Bureau.

The reports of the meeting participants considered international requirements for aeronautical meteorological services, organization of aviation meteorological support in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, national experience and best practices applied in Russia, Belarus and Azerbaijan.

The issues of the establishment of Regional Centers in support of the Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP) and the Aviation System Block Upgrade (ASBU), the management of risks associated with meteorological factors, the introduction of a new digital model for the exchange of meteorological information by ICAO, the implementation of ICAO standards and recommendations in aeronautical meteorological support, implementation of WMO standards in the field of education and training. These and other topics were widely discussed by the participants of the meeting.

The workshop and meeting were presented more than 20 reports, as well as presentations of experts.

As a result of the meeting, decisions were taken aimed at further improving the quality of meteorological support for civil aviation and improving the interaction of the CIS member states and neighboring states in this direction.
