Middle Eastern carrier Emirates has unveiled its first robotic check-in assistant. Sara, as the system is called, matches customers' faces with scanned passports, checks the passengers in, and guides them to the luggage drop area.
The innovative robot is part of a new City Check‑in, and Travel Store Emirates is set to launch In the heart of Dubai's financial district. The site allows customers to conveniently book travel, check-in for flights, drop off their luggage, and purchase travel essentials to save time at the airport. The facility opens today at ICD Brookfield Place in Dubai International Financial Centre.
Emirates describes Sara as an "innovative portable robotic check-in system." The robot debuted today and is embarking on a mission to help passengers have a smooth travel experience. Sara manages the check-in process much like a traditional kiosk. Passengers scan their passports, verify their contact and travel information, and are offered the option to purchase extra items, such as luggage. Once the passengers are checked in, the robot prints off the boarding passes and bag tags and guides customers to the baggage drop area.
