IATA calls for gender equality in the aviation industry

Created on 17.04.2023 16:18

International Air Transport Association (IATA) launched the 25by2025 (25 by 2025) initiative. Its goal is to increase the number of women working in leadership positions in aviation, as well as in related areas of the industry, to at least 25% by the end of 2025.

As the experts explained, airlines and aviation-related organizations can join the campaign, and it is not necessary to be a member of the association. Thus, 35 countries that are not members of IATA have already assumed obligations to implement the initiative.

The 25by2025 project was launched in 2019. Before the pandemic, 30 employers joined it, now there are 189. The association represents about 300 airlines or 82% of the total air traffic.

One of the first organizations to commit to 25by2025 earlier this month was ATPCO (Tariff Information Database). According to IATA, at least five other organizations have joined the program so far.

By the way, New York's JetBlue is considered the industry leader in terms of the number of women in senior positions. The airline's performance has already surpassed benchmarks, with over 30% of executive and director positions held by women. In addition, the carrier plans to increase this share to 40% by 2025 and will strive for gender equality at all levels, including by reviewing the salaries of employees.
