The preferred zone refers to the seats at the beginning of the economy class cabin, which are located immediately behind the business or premium economy class cabins. As conceived by the airline, accommodation in such places will save time upon arrival and get off the plane earlier.

The preferred seat reservation service on Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines flights was available from 20 February. Depending on the destination, for accommodation at the beginning of the economy class, the passenger need to pay from 30 to 50 euros per flight segment. Members of the Miles&More loyalty program of the elite levels HON Circle and Senator were released from payment.

Previously, a similar preferred zone at the beginning of the economy class cabin on long-haul flights was introduced by Swiss airline, part of the Lufthansa group.
