For the first time, Brussels Airlines has refueled its aircraft with biokerosene, Kazinform writes. Brussels Airlines is the first airline in the country, which had used the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The company purchased more than 2 million liters of biokerosene from the Finnish oil company Neste that utilizes a mixture with 38% environmentally friendly fuel.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) emphasizes that the aviation industry is committed to reducing harmful emissions worldwide. SAF has been identified as one of the key priority, enabling to operate more than 450,000 flights.
According to experts, the introduction of such technologies into industry would substantially reduce the scope of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. At the moment, biofuel is produced from various plant derivatives, including waste vegetable oils, sawdust, agricultural waste.
