Calls and the Internet will be available in European aircrafts

A 5G wireless connection will be installed on board of European airlines, allowing passengers to use their mobile phones and the Internet in flight, Tengritravel.kz writes.

Reportedly, a signal will be downlinked to Earth through an installed pico-cell equipment, linking the onboard system with satellites. Passengers will be able to call and write text messages, check mail, watch videos, play games, etc.

For this purpose, reserved frequencies were allocated in advance in 2008 (now these frequencies are used for another service). According to the European Commission, the innovation will be available no later than June next year.
