Created on 15.11.2022 15:02

From November 8 to 10, 2022, a meeting of the ICAO expert group - WHMEG (Wildlife Hazard Management Expert Group) was held to revise the ICAO Bird Strike Information System (IBIS) Manual, ICAO DOC 9332 -AN/909. This document was last revised in 1989 and is substantially out of date. According to the requirements of Annex 14 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, all ICAO member countries must report cases of aircraft strikes with birds that occurred on the territory of the state to the international civil aviation organization, which in turn generates reports on the problem of threats posed by birds to civil aviation. It is planned to complete the revision of ICAO Doc 9332-AN/909 by the end of 2023. The new edition will include sections on organizing the collection of information on bird strikes by states from civil aviation organizations, requirements for the data format, quality control of these data, conducting an annual analysis by states, the procedure for submitting data to ICAO and preparing ICAO analyzes. Moreover, the new edition will include questions about the identification of bird species using modern methods, including DNA analysis.
