The Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan held an annual meeting on improving the runway safety. The event was attended by representatives of Kazakhstan airports, air carriers, air navigation service provider "Kazaeronavigatsia" and Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Director General of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan Сatalin Radu noted, ensuring the safety of runway operations is possible only with the active cooperation and contribution of all participants in the aviation industry.
Runway safety is a global initiative of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO, which inspires member countries to develop national programs aimed primarily at reducing the risk of runway overruns and runway incursions. These risks are considered by ICAO as high risk category.
During the meeting, potential threats that arise during the runway operations were considered, measures were developed to reduce the associated risks to flight safety, the concept of national runway safety program was considered, industry reports on the implementation of previous protocol decisions were heard, and the industry's readiness for application of the Global Reporting Format on Runway Surface Condition for coming winter season was discussed.
Such meetings are an effective platform where representatives of aviation industry can personally discuss safety issues, make their proposals for improval, present their own vision in resolving problems at the intersection of ground operations, air traffic services and flight operations.
