Mr. Kairbek Uskenbayev, the Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan met with Ms. Karen Chan, the Commercial Director of the Air Asia Aviation Group. The meeting was attended by Mr. Talgat Lastayev, the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee, Mr. Paul Carroll, the Director for Revenue and Routes of Air Asia Aviation Group, and Mr. Benyamin Ismail, the Executive Director of Air Asia X.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of regular passenger and cargo flights between Kazakhstan and Malaysia. In turn, representatives of Air Asia Aviation Group confirmed the airline’s plans to launch flights from Kuala Lumpur (Air Asia X) and Bangkok (Thai Air Asia X) to Almaty at the first stage with a frequency of 4 flights per week on each route and the next stage to Astana with a frequency of 3 flights per week.

Air Asia also plans to create a “virtual hub” in Kazakhstan and operate flights with the fifth degree of “air freedom” to Istanbul (Turkey), Paris (France), Frankfurt (Germany), London (UK).

It is expected that the opening of flights between the countries will contribute to the further development of trade and economic relations, tourism and business cooperation.
