British carrier Virgin Atlantic, owned by the Virgin Group and Singapore Airlines, will join the SkyTeam alliance next year. Virgin Atlantic that operates in long-haul routes between the UK and North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, has made the final decision.

Since 2023, Virgin Atlantic customers will be able to earn and use points along with other alliance members, including the use of new airport lounges. Upon joining SkyTeam, Virgin Atlantic Silver Card holders will automatically be recognized as SkyTeam Elite members, while Gold Card holders will become Elite Plus members with benefits such as priority check-in, baggage handling and boarding.

Currently, the SkyTeam alliance consists of 18 airlines flying to over 1,000 destinations worldwide. Virgin Atlantic is already cooperating with some members of the alliance: the company has partnership agreements with Delta and Air France-KLM, and successfully works on a code-share basis with Aeromexico and Middle East Airlines.
