China's three biggest airline operators have placed orders for 300 brand-new aircrafts from the French concern Airbus, enabling the European company to significantly gain a foothold in the Chinese market.
China Southern, China Eastern and Air China announced simultaneously their orders for 292 units of Airbus A320 family. According to the Airbus, these concluded contracts demonstrate a positive trend of recovery and great confidence from the Chinese aviation business.
As stated by experts, new aircrafts will allow the China Southern to serve more passengers, which represents a 13 percent increase. China Eastern will use the A320neo both to increase passenger capacity and to replace its aging fleet. Air China estimates that its capacity will be increased by 10 percent while reducing operating costs. The new Airbus aircrafts will be delivered for Air China between 2023-2027, while the A320neo for China Southern and China Eastern will not arrive till 2024-2027.
