Created on 04.10.2022 09:01

The Kazakh delegation, led by Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee Talgat Lastayev, met with Malaysian aviation authorities during the 41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The Malaysian delegation was led by the Director of Malaysian Aviation Authorities, Mr. Datuk Chester Wu, and included representatives from Malaysia's Ministry of Transport, the leadership of Southeast Asia's largest low-cost airline, Air Asia, and Malaysia Airlines. The parties discussed the resumption of direct flights between Kazakhstan and Malaysia during the meeting.

Prior to the Covid 19 pandemic, the Civil Aviation Committee worked on plans for Air Asia to begin flights to Kazakhstan in 2019, but those plans were put on hold due to quarantine requirements. On behalf of the President, the Kazakh side proposed using the country's new "open sky" regime.

According to the management of the world's largest low-cost airline, "Air Asia," flights to Kazakhstan from Kuala Lumpur will begin in 2023, with connections to a third country (5th degree of air freedom). The parties agreed that the Executive Director of Air Asia, Mr. Benjamin Ismail, will visit Kazakhstan in the second half of October this year to work out the technical issues of launching a direct flight.
