The Israel Airports Authority (IAA) has announced that from March 31, 2023, a ban is introduced on regular flights of four-engine jet aircraft to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. The decision is justified by ecology considerations and noise reduction in the area and spread to both passenger and cargo aircraft. The Airports Authority emphasized that they give airlines six months to implement the appropriate replacements in the schedule.
Once a major operator of Boeing 747 aircraft of various modifications, the national carrier of Israel, El Al Israel Airlines decommissioned last B-747-400 in 2019. There are no other four-engine jet aircraft in the airline's fleet.
