Lufthansa took delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 a year later than originally scheduled. This aircraft was the first passenger aircraft manufactured by Boeing, added to the Lufthansa fleet over the past seven years. In 2015, the batch of 19 aircraft B-747-8 delivery of the German airline was completed. In the narrow-body segment, Lufthansa has completely switched over to aircraft of the Airbus A320/A320neo family.
The delivery of the B-787 is part of a large-scale plan to expand the wide-body fleet, implementation of which did not go according to schedule for a number of reasons. The program of the new Boeing 777-9 is five years behind schedule, forcing Lufthansa to return in operation the four-engine aircraft that it would have preferred to decommission: the B-747-400, A340-600 and A380.
