The FAA approved the inspection and repair plan developed by Boeing earlier this week after several months of intense negotiations. The first carrier accepted the 787 Dreamliner after the lifting of the embargo on deliveries was American Airlines.
“American Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-8 this year and its first since April 2021,” the airline said in a statement the day before. “The aircraft with registration number N880BJ has been delivered from South Carolina and will enter commercial service in the coming weeks.”
An airline based in Dallas, currently has 47 Dreamliners in its fleet, and 42 more are under order.
American Airlines has been forced to reduce its planned route network due to delivery delays, but plans to take on eight more 787s before the end of the year. Since the FAA suspended deliveries in May 2021, Boeing has accumulated 120 Dreamliners in debt to customers.
To increase production and reach the previous level, the aerospace giant will need several months.
Last month the representatives of Boeing said that the company suffered a loss of $3.5 billion as a result of the suspension of the 787 program. In addition, another about $1 billion more will have to be paid to eliminate the production deficiencies.
