In pursuance of the instructions of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan following the results of the state visit to Turkey in May 2022, on July 27, 2022, the official negotiations were held between the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and Turkey.
The Kazakh delegation was headed by Mr. Talgat Lastayev, the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Turkish delegation was headed by Mr. Kemal Yuksek, the Director General of the Turkish aviation authorities. The negotiations were attended by representatives of Kazakhstan airlines: Air Astana and SCAT, as well as representatives of Turkish airlines: Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Tailwind Airlines, Freebird Airlines.
As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to increase the number of permitted flights between Kazakhstan and Turkey by more than double, from 40 to 93 flights per week from each side, including from 7 to 14 flights on the route Nur-Sultan - Istanbul, from 13 to 21 flights per week on the route Almaty - Istanbul, as well as added new cities for flights on the territory of both countries.
In order to develop competition and reduce the cost of air tickets, at the initiative of the Kazakhstan side, it was established that alternative second air carriers be appointed on routes between Nur-Sultan, Almaty and Istanbul, which will expand the choice between airlines for passengers.
A significant increase in the number of flights between the countries will also help meet the growing transit passenger traffic through Kazakhstan air hubs from the CIS countries to Turkey.
