For 2021, the CO2 emissions of Kazakh airlines were amounted up to 800 thousand tons, Tengritravel.kz writes with reference to the Civil Aviation Committee of the MIID of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2019, the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan announced voluntary participation in the first project of CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation), in which 111 countries are currently participating.

The CORSIA system is part of the ICAO's project, aimed at reducing the impact of aviation on the climate and achieving carbon neutral growth by offsetting carbon emissions. International operators are required to monitor carbon emissions from all the international flights. Based on international flight data, CORSIA determines a baseline against which compensatory measures will be applied.

The CORSIA Global Market Mechanism was approved in October 2016 in tackling the problem of any annual increase in total carbon emissions. Currently, 2% of global CO2 emissions are concentrated in сivil aviation from human activities.
