Schiphol can't keep up with the overload

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol urges passengers not to arrive at the terminal before the check-in, thereby reducing the volume of luggage. Such a non-trivial step is an attempt to cope with a catastrophic shortage of staff in the screening area.
Like most European airports, Schiphol is facing a shortage of security staff amid a sharp increase in passenger traffic. Many employees were sent on unpaid leave or were dismissed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new training procedure for new staff requires considerable time.
Huge queues at the check-in and screening areas in recent weeks have caused passengers to board late or even miss their flights. The natural response is to arrive at the airport early. Passengers who arrived earlier are encouraged to stay at Schiphol Plaza. All the passengers are advised to take the minimum amount of baggage and limit a hand luggage to one piece.
