Lufthansa introduces a new fee

From June 21, the largest German airline Lufthansa introduces a new Economy Light fee on European destinations without free seat selection during online check-in.
If a passenger does not pay for seat selection, the system will select a seat in the cabin automatically. If a passenger does not like a seat, he can change it on a fee-for-service basis. The new fee will be EUR 25, USD 30 or CHF 30 depending on the destination.
A few years ago, Ryanair has started using a similar policy for issuing cheap seats. This policy enables Ryanair to earn money by selling additional services. In 2017, the German carrier was the first in Europe, receiving the highest 5* service rating from the British agency Skytrax. However, Lufthansa has eliminated free economy class meals on European flights, removed luggage from the cheapest tickets even on long-haul flights and condensed aircraft layouts.
