The new government intends to privatize SriLankan Airlines, according to the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Sri Lanka's national carrier lost $124 million in its latest fiscal year ending March 2021.
“The next couple of months will be the most difficult in our lives. We have to immediately create a national united body with the participation of the entire political spectrum in order to seek a solution to the present crisis,” Wickremesinghe stated.
In 2010, the Colombo government bought a stake in SriLankan Airlines from Dubai-based Emirates. According to FlightRadar24, the national carrier, which has a fleet of 25 Airbus' aircrafts, is operating to cities of Europe, the Middle East, and South and Southeast Asia.
