Boeing 747s were withdrawn from Air India's fleet

The Directorate General for Civil Aviation of India (DGCA) has deregistered four Boeing 747-400 wide-body aircrafts owned by Air India. The former national carrier that has been privatized in early February 2022 constantly seeks to improve the fleet efficiency as part of the restructuring program.
Four aircrafts were withdrawn in 2020 and 2021, but the airline has denied of its intention to suspend these aircrafts. The four-engine planes were used on regular routes and for VIP government delegations. At the moment, Indian airline includes twin-engine wide-body aircrafts B-777-200s, 13 B-777-300s and 27 B-787-8s.
After Air India had been returned to Tata group, company start developing the restructuring program, aimed at improving the commercial efficiency. Air India was founded in 1932 by Tata's founder Jehanjir Ratanji Dadabha Tata and was nationalized in 1953. Tata Group owns shares in two other Indian airlines Vistara and AirAsia India.
